We are helping deliver medical assistance to Laos

Laos
humanitarian aid

In Laos there are 2 doctors per each 10 thousand people. In many regions, especially in the mountains and other inaccessible places, there is hardly any healthcare available. One of such places was visited by Kulczyk Foundation. We providing funds for a project that will allow several thousand inhabitants obtain access to medical aid.

Lao Rehabilitation Foundation is an American organization established by a scientist from California, Luc Janssens. Its first medical mission to Laos took place in 2006. LRF’s members are volunteers: medical doctors and nurses from the United States who, supported by local medical staff from Laos, treat persons in the most vulnerable regions of the country. Apart from providing emergency medical assistance, they equip local facilities with medications and basic diagnostic equipment, and train inhabitants on how to operate the tools. The aim is to prevent situations that used to happen in the past, when no instrumentation was provided because of lacking personnel able to operate it.

In the course of the mission to Phongsali province, in the assistance of Dominika Kulczyk and TVN crew, LRF’s doctors and nurses will visit 3 sites for several days. There, they will render medical assistance to over 3,500 persons. They are an experienced team, including Ijan, a dentist from New York, or a married couple of doctors, Shioban and Mark, who have been volunteering in humanitarian missions for over 30 years now. Patients are treated at schools and small medical facilities. Kulczyk Foundation has provided funds for purchasing medications and medical equipment for a mobile hospital led by LRF’s doctors. Its beneficiaries will include children, who had never been treated by a doctor in their life, like a 12-year-old boy with a bacterial bone infection.

In many rural mountainous regions of Laos people die of diseases which are quite harmless in the Western world. Over 35% of rural population have no access to clean water. At a later point, not recorded by cameras, Kulczyk Foundation together with Green Cross Poland will implement a complex project here in the mountainous, Norther province of Phongsali. As a result of the project, ta system for delivery and collection of clean water will be implemented for the benefit of 500 inhabitants of the Houfphord village.
